Education and Program Progression Assistance Policy
1. Purpose & Vision
At Edison College Canada, our goal is to empower every student with the guidance, resources, and flexibility required to thrive in their academic journey. This policy ensures that all learners are supported through structured programming, responsive advising, and clear academic pathways.
2. Academic Program Framework
- Custom-Built Learning Paths
Each diploma and certificate program is structured using modular, outcomes-based design. Instructional hours meet or exceed BC’s PTIB benchmarks, and our courses are built to bridge students directly into real-world opportunities. - Orientation & Launch Sessions
Before formal instruction, students attend a program launch workshop introducing them to course expectations, digital tools, key policies, and academic contacts.
3. Student Evaluation & Support
- Transparent Grading & Feedback Cycles
Students receive instructor feedback early and consistently—starting within the first 30% of course delivery—to allow timely improvement. All grading criteria are shared at the outset. - Academic Checkpoints
Mid-term checkpoints offer students a one-on-one session with academic staff to review performance, set targets, and access tutoring or supplemental workshops if needed.
4. Academic Coaching & Success Advising
- One-on-One Academic Coaching
Instructors are available to answer all student-related queries, offering support with study strategies, course planning, and transition skills. Coaching sessions are available weekly by appointment or referral. - Progression Planning Meetings
Before advancing into a new term or level, students meet with advisors to ensure all prerequisites are fulfilled and develop a personalized success roadmap.
5. Transfer, Recognition, and Future Pathways
- Credit Recognition
Edison College will assess transfer credit requests from recognized Canadian institutions or international partners based on content overlap and academic equivalency. - Graduate Transition Partnerships
Our Career Services and Academic Office work jointly to facilitate articulation agreements with BC universities and employers for seamless next steps after graduation.
6. Student Standing & Remediation
- Academic Warning System
Students at risk of failing a course will receive a formal Academic Warning and a recovery plan that may include additional classes, tutoring, or a modified study schedule. - Probation & Reinstatement
A student placed on academic probation will be reviewed monthly. After demonstrated improvement, full standing can be restored. Appeals may be directed to the Student Affairs Panel.
7. Financial Aid & Student Loans
- In-House Financial Aid Officer
Students seeking assistance through StudentAid BC or other funding bodies are supported by our dedicated Financial Aid Officer to ensure documentation and eligibility compliance. - Emergency Assistance Program
Edison offers limited emergency bursaries for students facing unexpected financial barriers that could impact academic standing.
8. Dispute Resolution & Student Rights
- Conflict Resolution Services
The Office of Student Success offers confidential mediation services for academic and interpersonal disputes, prior to any formal complaint escalation. - Fair Practice Review
All student concerns regarding academic progression are reviewed under our Fair Practice Framework, ensuring equity, respect, and transparency.
9. Continuous Learning Culture
- Feedback-Informed Program Evolution
Edison’s Academic Board meets quarterly to review student feedback, faculty input, and job market data, ensuring that our curriculum and support systems evolve meaningfully. - Learner-Driven Improvements
We actively seek student proposals to improve course delivery, learning platforms, or advising services, reinforcing a co-created education environment.
