Tuition Refund Policy

Refunds are calculated on the total fees due under the contract, less non-refundable (registration/application) fees. The situational refund criteria is outlined below.

Student Withdrawal (before start date)

Before program start date, Edison receives a notice of withdrawal.

  • Applies to all students.
Circumstances when Refund PayableAmount of Refund
• No later than seven days after student signed the enrollment contract, and 
• Before the program start date.
• 100% tuition and all related fees, other than application fee. Related fees include: administrative fees, application fees, assessment fees, and fees charged for textbooks or other course materials.
• At least 30 days before the later of:
a) The program start date in the most recent Letter of Acceptance (international students)
b) The program start date in the enrollment contract.
• Edison may retain up to 10% of tuition, to a maximum of $1,000.
• Edison must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
• More than seven days after the student and Edison signed the enrollment contract, and 
• Less than 30 days before the later of:
a) The program start date in the most recent Letter of Acceptance (international students)
b) The program start date in the enrollment contract.
• Edison may retain up to 20% of tuition, to a maximum of $1,300.
• Edison must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.

Student Dismissal or Withdrawal (after start date) – In Person or Combination

After program start date, Edison provides a notice of dismissal or receives a notice of withdrawal.

  • Applies to all students, except those enrolled in a program delivered solely by distance education.
Circumstances when Refund PayableAmount of Refund
• After the program start date, and up to and including 10% of instruction hours have been provided.• Edison may retain up to 30% of tuition.
• Edison must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
• After the program start date, and after more than 10%, but before 30% of instruction hours, have been provided.• Edison may retain up to 50% of tuition. 
• Edison must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.

Student Dismissal or Withdrawal (after start date) – Fully Online Programs

After program start date, Edison provides a notice of dismissal or receives a notice of withdrawal.

  • Applies to students enrolled in a program delivered solely by distance education.
Circumstances when Refund PayableAmount of Refund
• Student completed up to 30% of the program.• Edison may retain up to 30% of the tuition. 
• Edison must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.
• Student completed more than 30% but less than 50% of the program (based on evaluation provided to student).• Edison may retain up to 50% of the tuition.
• Edison must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.

Student Non-Attendance

Student does not attend the program – “no-show”.

  • Applies to all students, except those enrolled in a program delivered solely by distance education.
Circumstances when Refund PayableAmount of Refund
• Student does not attend the first 30% of the program.• Edison may retain up to 50% of tuition paid.
• Edison must refund fees paid for course materials if not provided to the student.

Refusal of Study Permit

Edison receives a refusal of study permit.

  • Applies to international students requiring a study permit.
Circumstances when Refund PayableAmount of Refund
• Before 30% of instruction hours would have been provided, had the student started the program on the later of the following:
a) The program start date in the most recent Letter of Acceptance
b) The program start date in the enrollment contract 
• Student has not requested additional Letter(s) of Acceptance.
• 100% tuition and all related fees, other than application fee.

Non-Compliant Enrollment

Student enrolled in a program without having met the admission requirements for the program.

Circumstances when Refund PayableAmount of Refund
• If the student did not misrepresent the student’s knowledge or skills when applying for admission and the registrar orders Edison to refund tuition and fees.• 100% tuition and all related fees, including application fees.

Work Experience Placement Failure

Edison does not provide a work experience.

Circumstances when Refund PayableAmount of Refund
• Edison fails to provide the work experience within 30 days of the contract end date, unless the registrar determines Edison was prevented from doing so by circumstances beyond its control.• 100% tuition and all related fees, other than application fees.

Refund Terms

Edison must pay the tuition or fee refund within 30 days after receiving notice of withdrawal or refusal of study permit; providing a notice of dismissal, or the date on which the first 30% of the hours of instruction are provided (no-show).

Refund Details

A student may withdraw from a program by providing written notice to Edison College. Refunds are calculated on the total fees due under the contract, less non-refundable (registration/application) fees. 

  1. If Edison receives tuition from the student, or a person on behalf of the student. In that case, Edison will refund the student, or the person who paid on behalf of the student, the tuition that was paid in relation to the program in which the student is enrolled if:

    a) Edison receives a notice of withdrawal from the student no later than seven days after the effective contract date and before the contract start date;
    b) The student, or the student’s parent or legal guardian, signs the student enrolment contract seven days or less before the contract start date and Edison receives a notice of withdrawal from the student between the date the student, or the student’s parent or legal guardian, signed the student enrolment contract and the contract start date; or
    c) The student does not attend a work experience component and Edison does not provide all the hours of instruction of the work experience component within 30 days of the contract end date.
  1. Edison College will refund the tuition for the program and all related fees paid by the student or a person on behalf of the student enrolled in the program if the student is enrolled in the program without having met the admission requirements and did not misrepresent his or her knowledge or skills when applying for admission.
  1. If a student does not attend any of the first 30% of the hours of instruction provided during the contract term. In that case, Edison may retain up to 50% of the tuition paid under the student enrolment contract unless the program is provided solely through distance education.
  2. Refund eligibility and refund amounts are determined by the charts above.
