The school has an excellent Applied Arts Illustration program! The teacher, Adam Moore, is excellent at communicating the lessons and homework as well as being an incredibly talented illustrator. I feel I’ve grown significantly as an artist in the last year while attending this course and am excited to progress into a career as an illustrator. I would definitely recommend this program to any artists looking to make the jump into illustration as a full-time career.
2D Character Animation Diploma Program
Program Description
Edison College is Victoria’s oldest and largest animation college! As a Toon Boom Harmony Centre of Excellence since 2015, Edison College Canada (ECC) is constantly training and inspiring artists to participate in the country’s booming digital arts and entertainment economy.
This 2D Animation Course is a one-year intensive diploma program designed to get students ready for a career as a 2D character animator. Students will learn through live practical demonstrations and theory followed by guided in-class assignments.
Generally, all 2D Animation Programs are recognised by the provincial governments in Canada. This 2D animation diploma has been reviewed and approved by the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit (PTIRU) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.

Program Objectives
All subjects, in this Character Animation Course, are designed to flow one into the other with the culmination of two personal projects. All of which will be brought together into a demo reel and portfolio website, giving the students the resources to start a career as an animator while fostering their individual passion and drive through the variability of personal projects.
At the end of the program, students will be able to:
• Develop a portfolio that showcases their abilities and use that portfolio to search for employment.
• Apply for employment as a ‘junior 2D character animator’.
• Be able to animate a 2D character in Harmony Toon Boom.
• Certification: students must have some familiarity with art and design theory, character design, background art and design/layout, compositing, storyboarding, editing, rigging, scene planning, etc.
• Students will be able to complete Harmony Toon Boom (a popular software in Online Animation Courses Canada).

Student Animation Demo Reel
This video shows an example of a student demo reel created by our students in a 2D animation diploma program. These demo reels are crucial for students since they must demonstrate some hands-on experience in the field of animation before receiving their diploma certificate.
Such demo reels are also helpful for students looking for their first jobs because they exhibit their ability to do animation before they finish their diploma.
A successful career in animation requires a strong balance of theory and practice. Keeping this important balance in mind, the faculty at Edison College takes hands-on training seriously since it has a direct impact on students’ careers.

Overall, I’m incredibly grateful for the time I’ve spent at Edison College Canada. It’s a place that not only prepares you for a successful career but also helps you grow as an individual, the director and the teachers Ms. Theresa and Ms. Laura are so lovely and friendly. I would highly recommend this college to anyone seeking a holistic and enriching educational experience.
The Applied Arts Illustration program is one of the best I have attended. As a “mature” student, I have been able to dig deeper into illustrative techniques and methods, and focus on the work I want to do. I have gained the confidence to pursue a career in picture books as well as other areas I didn’t know about before. Adam Moore is a highly gifted instructor and illustrator, (as well as a great human being). His passion and experience is evident in every lesson and assignment. Since the course is an intensive, fast paced program, I suggest that you have the time to invest in order to get the most out of the program. Also, having the flexibility to attend in person and online was a huge advantage and very doable.
Initially I had some issues getting the required information for the 2D animation course, but once I met Racheal and booked a meeting with her the same day I got everything I needed to register. She explained things in a way that were easy and simple to follow, she talked about the future passionately and that got me very excited for what’s to come, big thanks to Racheal.
It is a good program to transition from my current career to a new job. I have been working as a healthcare aide for many years. It was a great choice for experience with Edison College. I met wonderful instructors during my lessons in each subject. There were some misunderstandings between students to instructors but it was nice to fix the problems. What I like most is that I have wonderful classmates helping each other. I have been learning from them because I have been dealing with the language barrier quite a bit, but I did it through with all of my classmates and instructors. Thank you for giving me the opportunity.
MLA Student here, the 8 month program is amazing! Only one month in and we have learned so much! The staff members are all amazing and very kind people. The small class sizes are also a bonus. The Oak street location is very convenient to get to whether you bus, or drive. Also, near the end of the program we will be doing a 6 week practicum at LifeLabs. I would highly recommend anyone who wants to get into the medical field to check out Edison College!
